Charles John Scavullo, Sr
Augusta, GA –Charles John Scavullo, Sr. entered into rest on Friday, December 4, 2015 at his home. Mr. Scavullo was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Hartey Scavullo.
Survivors include 2 sons Charles, Jr. (Mary Helen), Augusta and Frank, Charleston, SC, 5 daughters; Brenda (Ed) Durant, Augusta, Joyce Scavullo Kelley, Oakland, CA, Alice Scavullo, Augusta, Kay (Phil) Jesse, Augusta, Marie (John) Seitz, Augusta, and 10 grandchildren, Alex, Katy and Blase Durant, Dylan and Ian Jesse, Francesca Kelley, Jackie Atchison, Jackson, Nicky and Carly Seitz; and one great-grandson, Hank Bashford.
In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Angela Scavullo, his brothers, Francesco and Victor, and sisters, Marie Saegert and Margaret Scott.
Prior to moving to Augusta in 1972, Charles lived in Great Neck, NY. Charles was born April 29, 1924 in Great Kills, Staten Island, NY. After moving to NYC, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He graduated from De La Salle Institute in 1941. After 3 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, he graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in1950.
As President and Owner of Legions Utensil Company, he moved the factory to Waynesboro, GA and resided in Augusta for the last 43 years. After the sale of Legion in 1989, he purchased ADIA Employment Services. Retiring in 2006, he spent the rest of his years with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson who spent many happy hours listening to his many stories. He was an active member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 11, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Hull officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Ave, Augusta, GA 30904.
