Augusta, GA – Entered into the presence of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 27, 2023, Chaplain Charles Mitchell Rector, Sr., 85, loving husband of Mrs. Patricia Brickhouse Rector. He was preceded in death by his son Charles M. Rector, Jr. and his father Mr. Clifford Ceberry Rector and mother Mrs. Hallie Azilee Rector.
Charles was born in Newberry, South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army as a Chaplain, retiring as a Major with 20 years of service. He also served as a Chaplain for approximately 20 years at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Administration Hospital while, at the same time, serving at a number of other churches including Cliffwood Presbyterian, and First Presbyterian of Sandersville, Georgia.
Family members in addition to his wife include his daughter: Deborah Anne Brickhouse Donahue; sons: William Howard Brickhouse, Jr. and Steven Allen Brickhouse wife Jarlin Brickhouse; grandchildren: Kylie Brooke Brickhouse, William Cody Brickhouse, Ashley Nicole Singleton husband Greg Singleton, Sarah L. Clark husband Wade Clark; Michelle Brickhouse Gutierrez, Angela Brickhouse and son Wynston Otto BrickRhode, Crissy Blake, Hernan Brickhouse Martinez, Mara Gutierrez and Erick Diaz; great-grandchildren: Melissa Gentry, Malakye Singleton and youngest little Amelia Grace Clark. Cousins Dr. Larry W Reed, Twins Carroll Reed, Col. USA (Ret} Dr. Joel Reed, Allan Reed, Nola Woods and Great Aunts Mabel Rector Reed and Dessie Rector Dockery.
The family would like to send out a special thank you to his CNA, Joshulyn Stringfellow, and Pastor Paul Volpitto who has been by his side for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Paul Volpitto officiating. Interment will be on Rector Mountain in Marshall, NC.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.
