Charles Symonds

Augusta, GA - Charles “Charley” Symonds entered into rest at his home on April 9, 2025, at the age of 93. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road with a graveside service immediately following at Westover Memorial Park, Brad Whitt officiating.

Charley was born on December 31, 1931, in Augusta, GA, to Bessie and George Symonds. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Wiggins, on January 7, 1956, in Augusta, GA.

Charley served with the National Guard for four years, as well as two years with the Army during the Korean War. He began his career at Sig Cox as a sheet metal journeyman and steadily worked his way up to shop foreman, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a very talented, self-taught musician who was excellent at playing the piano, guitar, banjo, fiddle, and harmonica. Charley loved bringing his ideas to life by sketching playful characters and crafting copper watering pitchers, gifts he generously shared with those he loved. As a member of Curtis Baptist for 65 years, he served as Secretary/Treasurer of his Sunday School for 42 years. Being “PawPaw” to his grandchildren was the role he loved most and held dearest.

Charley is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Carlesa Rinker (Scot) and Darryl Symonds (Carla “Cookie”); and four grandchildren, Cayleigh, Camryn, MorganAshley, and Will. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Besse and George Symonds, and four siblings.
