Augusta, GA – Charlie Augustus Lovett, Sr, 88 years old, husband of Lanell Dill Lovett, entered into rest on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.
Born July 16, 1936 to the late James C. Lovett and Julia Ward Lovett, Charlie was one of five children and was the grandfather of the late Charlie Augustus “Cal” Lovett III. He was an Eagle Scout, played football for Waynesboro High School, where he was also in the band. He retired as the owner and master electrician of Ideal Electric and Equipment Co. After retirement, he continued to work for the local #776 IBEW.
Charlie served as a Deacon at several local Baptist churches before joining First Baptist Church of Augusta in 1994, where he was a member until his death. He was known as Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always eager to hear who you were helping and where you were working. Most conversations would end with a slice of cake or a bowl of ice cream - sometimes BOTH!! Charlie was a cheerful giver and loved helping his neighbors. He saw the best in everyone and was a man of faith. He loved to work with his hands and was never hesitant to share his relationship with Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lanell, three sons and their wives: Charlie “Chip” Lovett, Jr. and wife Alice, Marcus Lovett and wife Carla, and Anthony Lovett and wife Debbie; grandchildren: Amber Royal and husband Donnie, Carter Gűt and husband Josh, Dakota Lovett and wife Lindsey, Molly Horton and husband Chase, and Erin Lovett; great-grandchildren: Cal Royal and Riley Gűt; step-granddaughter: Brittany Trapp; step-great-grandchildren: Brice Trapp, Brinslee Trapp, and John Bently Wilson.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 13, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at 2:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be the Faith, Hope, and Love Sunday School Class and volunteers from the Benevolence Group. Pallbearers will be Len Collins, Dwayne Blackburn, Wade Johnson, Tony Heard, Cuylor Leverett, and Frank Allen.
