Mrs. Charlotte Powers McCamy
Augusta, GA –Mrs. Charlotte Powers McCamy passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at the age of 96 after short illness. She was the wife of late Mr. Robert Julian McCamy for 63 years. Mrs. McCamy was a native of Lindale, GA, and also resided in West Point and Rome, GA before moving to Evans, GA. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Powers and was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Powers.
She was a 1936 graduate of Shorter College where she was May Queen. She served as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II and was an active member of the Junior Service League of Rome, the Lindale and West Point Garden Clubs, and the D.A.R. She was involved in churches wherever she lived. Her lifelong loves were flower arranging and gardening, reading, travel and her family.
Family members include daughter: Mary McCamy Beachum of Augusta; sons: Robert Julian McCamy, Jr. and wife Jean of Wake Forest, NC, Donald Howard McCamy and wife Susan of Florence, AL., Charles Powers McCamy and wife Martha of Belmont, NC; ten grandchildren: Bond McCamy and wife Luana, Cameron McCamy and wife Lisa, Charlotte Shaughnessy and husband Harry, all of Wake Forest, NC; Katherine Salchert and husband Jeff of Birmingham, AL; Jennifer Pierce and husband Steve of Franklin, TN; Elizabeth Thrash and husband Ryan of Dallas, TX; Robert Beachum and wife Mary of Martinez, GA; Julia Beachum of Pineville, NC; Emily McCamy of Durham, NC; and Anna Gunderson and husband Jansen of Pocatello, ID; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Wilann Powers of Lindale, GA.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Augusta, GA with Rev. Robert Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Interment will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Rome, GA on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. James Van Dyke officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the Sunflower Room of the Hawthorn Suites, 100 West Second Avenue.
