Evans, GA- Mrs. Irmgard Cool Gilbert, died peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017, surrounded by her loving husband of 26 years, F. Edgar Gilbert, Sr. and dear sister-in-law, Jeanie Gilbert.

Chenin was born in Nuremburg, Bavaria, Germany in 1939. She was the beloved only child of Walter Von Glass and Ilse Von Henneberg of Marktredwitz, Germany.

She is survived by her husband’s family including his daughters and sons: Fred E. Gilbert, Jr., Donna G. Mangers, Gary L. Gilbert, Jeffrey D. Gilbert, Kenneth E. Gilbert, and Bethe G. Almeras.

She earned the Abitur and attended Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany where she studied Chemistry and Mathematics culminating in the M.S. and M.T. degrees. Chenin retired from University Hospital where she served for many years as Manager of the Chemistry Laboratory.

Even through an extended illness, her spirit continued to embrace life sharing it with her devoted husband, family, long-time colleagues, and friends including Gabi Stanley, Pat Wyka, and Lamar Clements.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Denny Mack, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
