Evans, GA – Chris Verdery Alford, 78 of Evans Georgia, beloved husband of Nancy Delene Harrison Alford passed away at his home on September 17, 2021.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet and Son.
Chris was born in Augusta GA on November 23, 1942, to Dr. Roger Wendell Alford Jr. and Gertrude Verdery Alford.
He is preceded in death by his older brother Roger Wendell Alford Jr. (Wendy) and brother-in-law Henry Grady Smith III.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Deeny) Delene Harrison Alford, his brother Orville Wesley Alford, sister Clara Catherine (Cathy) Alford Smith, his children Kimberly Delene Alford Grice (Gary) and Linda Catherine Simanski (Richard), and his grandchildren Clayton Francis Grice (Charlotte NC), Addison Alford Grice (Augusta GA) Rebecca Simanski Sandberg (Robert) and Matthew Connor Simanski (Evans Ga)
Chris attended Richmond Academy and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business of Administration. He worked for Georgia Railroad Bank, owner and president of Alford Construction and Development and was Director of Buildings and Grounds for Columbia County Board of Education.
Chris and Deeny met in the 7th grade and never left each other’s side. He enjoyed fishing, camping at Hunting Is, SC. and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and the Atlanta Falcons. He was a proud member of the Exchange Club of Augusta for 50 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Exchange Club of Augusta.
