Christopher B. Larkin, age 66, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, after completing a final round of golf with close friends on a gorgeous spring day in Augusta.
The youngest son of Augusta natives, Herschel Rex and Maryanne Toole Larkin, Chris grew up on Bransford Road with three older brothers, and a slew of neighborhood and school friends that he remained close to throughout his life, including his fourth-grade girlfriend and wife of 40 years, Lou Engler Larkin.
Beginning at Forest Hills Elementary and continuing on through Langford Junior High, Academy of Richmond County, and the University of Georgia, Chris was known for his larger-than-life presence, life-of-the-party personality, and wide circle of friends, colleagues, and clients. But in the end, it was his tenderhearted love of family that marked his life and created the legacy he’ll be best remembered for.
In addition to his surviving wife, Lou, and brother Frederick Toole Larkin, Chris’s legacy lives on through the next generations of the Larkin clan, including his sons, Christopher Joseph Larkin and Morgan Sheppard Larkin, his daughter, Catherine Maryanne Larkin, his two daughters-in-law, Danielle Bernard Larkin and Shelby Smeak Larkin, his first-born grandson, Reece Christopher Larkin, his soon-to-arrive second grandson, Sheppard Michael Larkin, and Katie’s fiancé, Trevor Patterson.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Herschel Rex Larkin and Michael Stephen Larkin.
Chris was a proud father and grandfather, often beaming with joy when sharing stories of his children. His love for them was boundless, and he made sure that every moment with his family was a moment to be remembered.
What set Chris apart, however, was his incredible sense of humor. He had an uncanny ability to make anyone laugh, no matter the situation. His quick wit and mischievous nature were well known, and he could always be counted on for a joke or a funny story that would brighten anyone’s day. His infectious laugh and playful personality brought joy to every room he entered.
Beyond his humor, Chris had a love for sports, particularly golf and football, and specifically the Georgia Bulldogs. He never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He also enjoyed annual trips to Edisto Beach, reading, fishing, and sharing a good meal with his family.
A memorial service to celebrate Chris’s life will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son on Davis Road on Tuesday, April 1st at 2 PM. Visitation will be held at 1 PM.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Chris. You will always be loved, always remembered, and always the one who could make us laugh.
