Mrs. Christine “Tena” Hundley Phillips of Lawrenceville, Ga, received complete healing and peacefully entered into her eternal home on Sunday, January 20, 2019. She was a loving wife of 57 years to Jack L. Phillips Sr., who preceded her in death in 2013. She was also an adoring Mom to her 2 sons, Lee (Sherri) Phillips and Vaughn Phillips, and a proud Mema to her six grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew) Wall, Austin Phillips, Justin Phillips, Faith Phillips, Jorden (Chris) White, and Owen Phillips and four great-grandchildren, Madyson White, Colbert White, Mallainey White, and Zion Walls.
Tena was a native of Augusta, relocating to Atlanta in 1962. She received an Associate Degree from the University of Georgia, which led her to her love of teaching. She taught kindergarten at Oak Grove Methodist Church for 18 years and 15 years at Montgomery Elementary for a total of 33 wonderful years. She gave the best hugs as a Greeter for many years at Rehoboth Baptist Church and continued those hugs to everyone she met!
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew Hundley Sr. and Maggie Spears Hundley, her sisters, Doris Hundley Smiley and Margie Hundley Bowers, her brother, William “Bill” Andrew Hundley Jr. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Tena is survived by her sisters, Callie Hundley Mobley and Barbara Young Hundley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for viewing on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with her “Home Going Service” at 1:00 pm at Bath Presbyterian Church, 3910 Bath Edie Rd, Blythe, Ga. The Rev. Lloyd Ferguson will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 7 Bridges to Recovery, 2840 Plant Atkinson Road, Atlanta, Ga 30339.
