Augusta, GA— Mr. Christopher Allan Smith, Sr., 66, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 11, 2022 at University Hospital. He was a loving husband of 37 years to Lynda McFeely Smith.
Chris was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia. He attended Augusta Preparatory School and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County. Chris attended the University of Georgia where he “spent the best eight years of his life.” He was a member of the UGA soccer team. Chris was always an avid fan of the UGA Bulldogs.
Chris was a Project Manager for Hull Property Group. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Augusta Golf Association, and proud winner of the 2015 AGA Jamboree. Chris was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many.
Chris had a passion for soccer and spent many years coaching the sport he loved. Throughout his life, he was a mentor to many.
Chris was an outdoorsman and his favorite place to be was watching his beloved dog Sally running through the fields.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marian Maxwell Jakes, father Robert Jackson Bates Smith, Sr., and brother R. Jackson Bates Smith, Jr. Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Christopher Allan Smith, Jr. and Joseph Bates Smith; sisters: Mary Edith Guye (Rusty), Ashley Wilson, Harriet Robison (Ken), Annie DiMartini (Dave); brothers: Joseph Eve Smith (Maureen), Michael W. Smith (Ebb); nephew Todd Wilson (Elizabeth); cousins: Richard Grise, John Grise (Sarah), Jim Grise; special friend Dr. Ronnie Martin; beloved nephews and nieces, and was loved by his in-laws, the McFeely family.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1 pm at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church with the Rev. James T. Said officiating. The family will receive friends for a reception in the Parish Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions to be made to the Christopher Allan Smith, Jr. Special Needs Trust, 312 High Chaparral Drive, Martinez, Georgia 30907.
