Martinez, Ga – Entered into rest Tuesday, September 16, 2014, Mrs. Cindy Johnson Crawford, 54, wife of 33 years to Rick Crawford.
Cindy was a native of Bath, SC and lived in Martinez most of her life. Her life progressed normally until Cindy was diagnosed in 1989 with adrenal cancer and was given 5 years to live. Through this illness her diet was strictly dictated and Cindy discovered her passion for food. When most people might have surrendered Cindy dug in her heels and fought back. Unable to work full time she began catering in 1999 for friends and neighbors to occupy her time. The end result of that endeavor was the beginning of Cindy’s Catering where she was Executive Chef and owner.
Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friends. She was an inspiration to many people, even all over the world. She truly had a heart of gold.
Family members in addition to her husband included children: Kelley Strickland and husband Brian of Martinez GA, Ricky Crawford of Martinez GA, Lisa Land and husband Shawn of Thomson GA, brothers: Richard Johnson and wife Suzanne of Moncks Corner SC, Tommy Johnson and wife Vickie of Appling GA, sisters: Glenda Williams and husband Charles of Bath SC, Carolyn Favors of Bath SC, Hazel Stallings of North Augusta SC, grandchildren: Christopher Strickland, Kayla Strickland, Levi Land and Logan Land. Cindy also had many loving nieces and nephews.
Cindy was a member of Kiokee Baptist Church and involved in many civic and extracurricular activities: Richmond and Columbia County chambers of commerce, Augusta Technical College advisory board for Culinary Arts program, Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau hospitality committee, Cater Source Magazine, Golden harvest Food Bank, American Cancer Society, Administrator for an International Cancer Support Board, March of Dimes and Cindy’s Wreaths and More.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 3:00pm at Kiokee Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hartman officiating.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to American Cancer Society, Relay for Life Augusta.
