Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Mrs. Clara Newby Sharpton, 90, loving wife of 67 years to Mr. Jay W. Sharpton.

Clara was born in Harlem, Georgia and lived in the Augusta area her whole life. She was a member of Abilene Baptist Church for 55 years. Clara was the Lunchroom Manager at Evans High School for several years before going to work for J.B. White in National Hills for 20 years. A lover of the outdoors, Clara was an avid gardener and enjoyed camping and fishing. Most recently a highlight of her day was receiving and looking at daily pictures of her great granddaughter, Harper Reese. Clara was loved by everyone that knew her, she always had a smile and put others first, especially her family. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Family members in addition to her husband include her children: Michael Sharpton, Russell Sharpton, and Julie McCants; grandchildren: Lauren Hawkins (Matt) and Tara Hughes (Cody); great grandchild: Harper Reese Hawkins and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Abilene Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
