Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, January 22, 2022, WWII Navy Veteran Clarence Ford Stirewalt, 95, loving husband for over 60 years to the late Leatrice Virginia Ard Stirewalt.
Mr. Stirewalt was a native of Asheville, NC but has lived in Augusta for 40 years. He was Salutatorian at Ashville High School. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the United States Navy in WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre. Following his service in the Navy, he attended Mars Hill University and earned his Master’s in Hospital Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Clarence began a career with the Veterans Administration that lasted 45 years. He worked at the VA Hospital in Miami before moving to Augusta as
the Associate Director was responsible for moving the VA Hospital from Forest Hills to 15th Street. He was a member of Kiawah’s Club and worked as a Masters Tournament gallery guard for over 25 years.
Family members include his three children: Start Craig Stirewalt (Anne Stirewalt), Pamela Lee Leach, and Rodney Ford Stirewalt (Edna Stirewalt); and three grandchildren: Joseph Craig Stirewalt, Joshua Austin Leach, and Carson Alexander Leach.
In Augusta the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son and a graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville, NC with Rev. Ken Elligson officiating.
