Augusta, GA – Mr. Clarence W. “Sonny” Mobley, III, of Augusta, GA, husband of Callie Hundley Mobley, entered into rest Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Doctor’s Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Augusta, GA, he graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and the University of Georgia. He served during the Korean War, on active duty, with the National Guard from Augusta.

He was past president of Mobley Construction Co. Inc. and counted among his accomplishments in the construction business was the successful completion of thirty-three church contracts. The church project he was most proud of being a part of, was the site development and construction of the first four buildings of First Baptist Church, Augusta, at their new campus on Walton Way Extension.

Other accomplishments included past president of the Augusta Builders Exchange, and the Augusta YMCA. He was a past director of the Augusta Chamber of Commerce, C&S Bank (now Bank of America), Georgia Carolina Council of Boy Scouts, Downtown Kiwanis Club and West Lake Country Club.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta, Augusta Country Club and the Associated General Contractors of America.

Mr. Mobley was preceded in death by his parents Clarence W. Mobley, Jr. and Lena Mae Usher Mobley and his sister Carolyn Mobley Wright.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Clarence W. Mobley, IV (Joyce) and Andrew Hundley Mobley; two granddaughters: Stephanie Richter (Trevor) and Elise Porporino (Jason); and eight great-grandchildren.

Some of his interests included playing golf (6 handicap), flying his own plane, boating, going to football games and entertaining guests and family at his beach house on Hilton Head Island. As an avid pilot, he flew his family on trips to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns and the Bahama Islands. Dating back to 1939, he attended 73 consecutive Georgia/Georgia Tech football games.

Known for his quick wit, he always had a joke to tell or made up one-liners and play-on words that were always a hit at gatherings. He was a loving husband to his wife of 63 years, a highly respected businessman, a wonderful father to his children and a good friend to all who were acquainted.

A funeral service will the held in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM, with a private burial at Westover Memorial Park on Monday.

Visitation will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 3500 Walton Way Ext., Augusta, GA 30909.
