Clarissa Culbreth
Augusta, GA – Clarissa Inglett Newman Culbreth, wife of Matthew Thomas Culbreth, went to Heaven Friday, September 17, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband Guy Newman, sons Terry Guy Newman, Jeff Clayton Newman, and a granddaughter Crystal Chester Schaefer. Clarissa was the daughter of the late Clayton and Eva James Inglett; and beloved sister of the late J.C., Charlie, Billy, Randolph Inglett and Chick Gay.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda (Tony) Humphries, Frances (Al) Hooks, and Judy (Terry) Bowley; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; her siblings Ethel Culbreth, Bob Inglett, Henry Inglett, Gladys Gould, and Eva Powell.
Clarissa was adored by her family. She was the third oldest of eleven siblings so she was tasked with a lot of the household and farm chores at a very young age. She was a loving selfless giving woman who never met a stranger. Everyone was welcomed into her home, and she always offered something to eat and drink. Clarissa loved to cook, bake pies and cakes, and everything she cooked was delicious. She enjoyed growing flowers and plants. She loved making quilts, stitching by hand, and did so until the age of 89. She was very generous with her quilts by giving them away, she enjoyed sewing and didn’t feel right in selling something that gave her such pleasure.
Clarissa lived her entire life doing for and giving to others, always putting herself last and going without- she deserved so much more but always insisted she had all she needed in her family and didn’t need or want anything more. Our mother was the epitome of a true Christian lady, a wonderful wife, fantastic mother and sister, a friend to all and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
