Dowling Park, FL – Entered into rest Wednesday, May 9, 2012, Mrs. Cleo Clifton Bullard Smith Montgomery, 100, wife of the late Mr. William F. Montgomery.

Mrs. Montgomery was born in 1911 in DuPont, GA to Mr. Clifton Price Bullard, MD and Mrs. Emma Jessie McClellan Bullard. The family moved to Jasper, FL where Dr. Bullard practiced medicine and then they moved to Miami, FL where they attended the Advent Christian Church. They attended camp meetings, summer camps at Camp Suwannee at Dowling Park; FL. Cleo attended the University of Miami. She taught elementary school in Miami schools before her marriage to the late John Ralph Smith and then moved to Augusta. She was a teaching assistant at Our Redeemer Lutheran Kindergarten in the mid 1940’s. Cleo taught at Monte Sano School and retired in 1974. She attended Bethlehem Advent Christian Church. She also volunteered at Friendship Community Center. In 1982 she moved to a retirement village; Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL. She married a long time friend, the late Mr. William F. Montgomery.

Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister, one great grandson, Brian D. Smith and son-in-law, Charles S. Readdy.

Family members include: daughter: Fleur Lynn Smith Readdy of Augusta; stepson: Dr. William J. Montgomery (Nancy) of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren: Debra R. Smith, MD, Robert C. Readdy (Lisa) of North Carolina; Jesse Montgomery (Angelica), Andy Montgomery, Tim Montgomery (Ari), Joel Montgomery; great grandchildren: Amanda Smith, Staff Sgt. Aaron Readdy, Stephanie Readdy, Niamh, Simeon, Euan, Wren, Shona, Paliesin and Luca Montgomery; sister: Ilynn B. Paskewich of Miami, FL; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at Our Reedemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Schwartz officiating.


In lieu of flowers charitable contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Our Reedemer Lutheran Church, starting at 10:30 A.M.
