Clifford L. Carey
Augusta, GA – Mr. Clifford Lee Carey, 59, loving husband of Andrea Hill Carey, entered into rest on February 15, 2018.
A Christian Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with the Reverend Michael Hull celebrant.
Visitation for the deceased will be Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son. Inurnment will be at the Columbarium at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church following the funeral Mass.
Clifford was born in Augusta, GA in 1958 to the late Clifford (Bo) Lee Carey, Sr. and Leona Mae Cason Carey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Clinton Reagan. He is survived by his bride of 21 years: Andrea Hill Carey; three sons: Richard Mark Plunkett (Caro), Andrew Olin Plunkett and Charles William Plunkett; grandson: Beckett Mark Plunkett; and granddaughter: Mary Charlotte Plunkett; brother: James Mario Carey (Brenda); sister: Deborah Carey Alford (Bruce); sister-in-law: Maytrice Reagan; Uncle Charles and Aunt Cindy Cason; mother-in-law: Neita Hill Mulherin; father-in-law: the late Brian Joseph Mulherin, Sr.; sisters-in-law: Anita Hill Shackelford (Dean), Mary Ruth Hill Hamilton (Hugh); brother-in-law: Richard Hoyle Hill, Jr. (Paige); step-sisters-in-law: Nancy Mulherin Bachelder (David), Kathy Mulherin Carroll (Mike); step-brothers-in law: Brian (Bo) Joseph Mulherin, Jr. (Cathy), Thomas Mulherin (Vickie); step-sisters-in-law: the late Jeannie Mulherin, the late Barbara Mulherin; and his many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Clifford was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA. He was a 1976 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. Clifford graduated from Augusta Technical School earning his degree in Instrumentation Technology. Clifford furthered his education at Augusta College and Georgia Southern College and later earned his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management.
Clifford grew up attending Saint Luke United Methodist Church in Augusta where he and Andrea were married in 1997. He converted to Catholicism in 2006. Clifford and Andrea had their marriage blessed by the Catholic Church on their 10th wedding anniversary at St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church.
Clifford started his career at American Technical Services in Atlanta, GA. He was a partner in Southeast Controls, Inc., Augusta, GA. Clifford joined Lockwood Greene Engineers in 1994 spending 20 years as a Construction Manager and Project Engineer. He was awarded Lockwood Greene’s “Employee of the Year” in 1995 for continued outstanding excellence in attitude, performance and overall contribution to Lockwood Greene. Clifford has been employed by Solvay Specialty Polymers as a Project Engineer for the past five years, where he thoroughly enjoyed Solvay’s culture and his colleagues.
Clifford served on the Board of The Augusta Child Advocacy Center and was instrumental in the early stages of The Augusta Child Advocacy’s “Cooking for Kids”. He was past Area Chairman of Quail Unlimited. Clifford graduated from the “Leadership Augusta Class of 1992”. Clifford also served on the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Advisory Board at Augusta Technical College.
Clifford most loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed being a doting husband to Andrea and being Cliffdaddy to his three sons, daughter-in-law, grandson and granddaughter. Over the years, Clifford has enjoyed spending time coaching the boys in baseball and other sports activities, helping them with their homework and projects, working in the yard with them and just being a Dad and Granddaddy. Clifford loved to cook and to grill for family and friends and he always had a smile when he was cooking! He is known for his fabulous “shrimp and grits” and for his delicious “low country boil” among many other signature dishes! Clifford looked forward to hosting the annual “Family Fish Fry” a tradition that he and Andrea carried on in honor of his late brother Clint. Clifford cherished his time spent on family vacations, family time together on holidays and traveling with Andrea. Clifford was an avid gardener and loved working in the yard and keeping the flowers blooming. Clifford had the most positive outlook on life! He truly loved his God, his family, his friends, his church, his work and his community. He will be deeply missed by those of us who know and love him.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buzzy Banks, Steve King, Woody Merry, Grimes Redd, Franklin Stulb, Paul Sheehan and Kevin Teston.
