Augusta, GA – Mr. Clinton L. Lewis, Jr., 90, passed away on January 16, 2016.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (Peggy) Callahan Lewis. He is survived by his three sons: Clinton (Sandy) Lewis III, Atlanta, Georgia; David Lewis, Hilton Head Island, SC; and Stephen Lewis, Los Angeles, CA.
Mr. Lewis was a native of Augusta. He was the son of the late Clinton Lewis, Sr. and Lona Sprouse Lewis. His brother Reginald Lewis preceded him in death. Mr. Lewis attended Monte Sano Elementary School and Richmond Academy. He entered Georgia Tech in 1943 but was drafted into the Army a year later. He spent two years in the Army with most of his time being spent in China in the Military Intelligence Service. He returned to Georgia Tech in 1946 and graduated in 1948 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He then joined the Babcock and Wilcox Company and worked in engineering related responsibilities for the company for 39 years. He was the manager of strategic business planning for the company at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Lewis was a long time member of St. John United Methodist Church. He was a member and former president of the Uptown Kiwanis Club, Historic Augusta, a former board member of the Salvation Army and the Augusta Metro Federal Credit Union. He worked as a volunteer at the downtown V.A. hospital. Mr. Lewis loved his family, his friends, and his church. His many interests included Georgia Tech, golf, jazz piano, and the great outdoors.
A memorial service will be held at St. John United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Gary DeMore will officiate. The family will receive friends in the St John Church fellowship hall immediately following the memorial service.
