Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, May 1, 2011 at University Hospital, Ret. COL Wayne Samuel Lethgo, 82, husband of Katherine Scales Lethgo.

COL Lethgo was a native of Altus, OK and resided in Augusta since 1968. He was a graduate of Austin Peay University. COL Lethgo retired with 27 years of service in the U.S. Army serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. His final assignment was Adjutant General of Ft. Gordon until his retirement in 1973. Following his retirement he was plant manager at Riegel Textiles in McCormick, SC. COL Lethgo was also the Veteran’s Affairs Officer for Aiken County. He was active in various organizations in the Augusta area including the Retired Officer Association and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Augusta Country Club.

Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Robert A. Lethgo of Munich, Germany, William D. Lethgo, of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren: Nathan Lethgo, Carolyn Lethgo, Bailey Lethgo, and Rebecca Lethgo; stepsons: James Robert Patterson, Jr. of Tampa, FL, and Douglas Scales Patterson of Salt Lake City, UT.


Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Sherwood officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Interment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.
