Augusta, GA - Mrs. Colleen McGill Gaines, 79, entered into heavenly rest on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
Born in Washington, Georgia, Colleen spent her early years in Lincolnton, Georgia, where she had fond memories of playing with her cousins and held a special place in her heart for the time spent with her aunt Iris and particularly with her grandmother, Mama Glady. Her family later moved to Martinez, Georgia. She graduated from Evans High School and attended Augusta College, before moving to Athens, Georgia, to continue her studies at the University of Georgia. She eventually made her home in Evans, Georgia, where she worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and Chemistry Supervisor before retiring after 36 dedicated years at Doctor’s Hospital. Throughout her life, she held herself to the highest standards, quietly put others before herself, offered unconditional love, and led by example.
She is survived by her sons David Gaines (DeeDee), Scott Gaines (Jennifer), and Russell Gaines (Ladonna); her siblings Donna McGill, Walter McGill (Sue), and A.C. McGill (Georgia); grandchildren Cannon, Knox, Samuel, Eliana, Aryana, and Amelia Gaines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gaines, her parents Walter Collins McGill and Lois Albea McGill, and siblings Joey McGill (Nancy) and Mary McGill.
The family will receive family and friends at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Westover Memorial Park with Pastor William F. Harrell officiating.
