Constance Mae Lyngby

Grovetown, GA - Entered into rest Thursday, February 11, 2021, Constance Mae Lyngby, 93, loving wife of Dr. Christian Campbell Lyngby (deceased).

Constance (Connie) was born in Chicago, Illinois to Mary Mae (Mae) Kowalec and Adam Joseph Szeflin on June 26, 1927. She graduated from Lindbloom High School in 1945, and Morgan Park Jr. College in 1947.

While at Lindbloom Highschool, Connie was first chair and the chosen pianist for the orchestra. Lindbloom’s Conductor, Maestro Lyngby (Sr.) had a sailboat and hosted Lake Michigan sails on the weekends. His son, Christian served as First Mate. He met and was instantly smitten with Connie during a Chicago Harbor Maestro Lyngby hosted for the Lindbloom Orchestra. They were married on August 27,1949.

Connie worked as an administrative assistant in an advertising agency in the Chicago Loop while Christian attended Medical School. After taking time off to raise their three daughters, she returned to school. She received her bachelor’s degree from Prairie State College and her master’s degree in Human Learning and Development from Governor’s State University at University Park, Illinois.

Connie worked as a counselor in nutrition, and fell in love with teaching. She obtained her teaching certificate and for the next 20 years taught as a substitute teacher in local middle and high schools. She was the ‘Go to SUB’- always taking education seriously. She was not a ‘babysitter’- for the class. Connie was committed to ensure the kids genuinely learned something during her time with them.

Connie loved to entertain and was an excellent cook. She had an amazing eye for design and worked with the architect to craft their ‘Dream Home’ in Lincolnshire Estates, Crete Illinois. Christian did most of the interior work- it was a ‘labor of love’ between two of them.

Following retirement from his Anesthesiology Practice, at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Christian and Connie relocated to their ‘Virtual Paradise’ retirement home in Sugar Creek, Grovetown GA. They found a spectacular home on a 10-acre pond often visited by Canadian geese, turtles and deer. They so loved waking up and looking out at the water and seeing all the animals.

Connie loved visiting her daughters and spending time with her grandchildren. When the grandkids were younger, Connie would orchestrate elaborate plays with scripts where they each had parts. It was magical!

After relocating to Augusta, Connie worked as a substitute teacher at Euchee Creek, Grovetown, Evans, Lakeside, and Greenbriar Highs schools. She was always physically fit, exercising daily, bicycling or walking. She was a fashionista, wearing the latest trends and rocking them totally. Connie volunteered as a docent at the Morris Museum of Art and crafted the “Gone with the Wind” tour presentation of regional southern paintings.

Connie was a voracious reader of non-fiction and loved classical music, a shared bond between her and Christian. They also shared a love for travel and enjoyed many trips abroad over the years. She loved to watch the cooking channel and challenge the chefs with her curbside criticism while drinking her evening glass of wine. She will be missed dearly by her loving family & friends.

Family members include 3 daughters: Dr. Laura Lyngby Mulloy (Dr. Anthony); Karyn Mae Moffett (William); Gail Suzanne Mellinger (Deron); 7 grandchildren: Leigha Moffett, Dr. Evan Mulloy, Cherissa Moffett, Joshua Mulloy & Samantha Moffett, Jenna Mellinger and Jacob Mellinger, and 2 beloved Caregivers; Ms. Dorothy Henley & Ms. Mary Redmond.
