Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, September 17, 2011, Mr. Curtis Lee Browning, 87, husband of Bess Mullis Browning.

Mr. Browning was born in Rentz, GA. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church, past master of Fleming Masonic Lodge, a member of Alice Warren Eastern Star, American Legion Post 63, and USS Raby Sailors Association. Mr. Browning served in the Navy as a gunners-mate first class for both WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Georgia and taught school in Baxley, GA for 2 years. He then worked for DuPont and retired after 31 years.

Family members in addition to his wife include sons: Steve Browning (Darcy), Tim Browning (Beverly); daughters: Nancy Browning, Lisa Browning Hammersmith (Paul); grandsons: Daniel, John, and Culley Browning, Robert, Eric, and Luke Hammersmith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Waver and Verdie Browning; and sister, Lemerle Lowery.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers who gave him such love and care while at Kentwood Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11:30 A.M. at Fleming Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Hammond officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rufus Cowart, Erwin Faulkner, Bob James, Dick Johnson, Rufus Cockrell, and Bo Connelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Fleming Lodge #718.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fleming Baptist Church Building Fund, 3027 Peach Orchard Rd, Augusta, GA 30906.
