CW3 Marion Shelly Stringer
U.S. Army (Ret.)
Augusta, GA – CW3 Marion Shelly Stringer entered into his heavenly home surrounded by his wife, daughters, and eldest granddaughter, on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2016.
Shelly was born one of seven sons, all serving our country in the U.S. Military, to Homer and Bamer Stringer on September 13, 1935. He was a dedicated soldier to the United States Army, starting his career in 1953 in a highly specialized area of communication security. He rapidly advanced through the ranks to the grade of Sergeant First Class. In 1967, he was promoted to Warrant Officer and in 1975 he retired as Chief Warrant Officer 3. His overseas tours included Germany, Panama, two Vietnam Combat tours and two tours to Iran. Shelly’s decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation, and numerous service campaign awards.
After his military retirement, he continued in a Civil Service capacity training future Army leaders. His ultimate retirement was in 1997. Shelly enjoyed camping, traveling, and his grandchildren. He was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a member of a local Masonic Lodge.
As a true soldier, he was waiting for that final call and new assignment from Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, where he does not have to take his gun and fight any more wars.
Family members include wife: Dixie Minter Stringer; daughters: Karen Stringer Dukes (Mars) and Lisa Stringer Beverly (Eddie); grandchildren: Megan Dukes Tingen (Nathan), Zachary Beverly, and Abigail Dukes; one sister: Jean Kyle; one brother: Tommy Stringer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
