AUGUSTA, Ga. – Lt. Col. Dale L. Groenenboom, US Army (Ret.) entered into rest on Sunday, June 7, 2015.

Colonel Groenenboom, son of the late Johannes and Olive (Jones) Groenenboom, a native of Brookings, South Dakota, and, since January of 1964, a resident of Augusta, Georgia, enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Crook, Nebraska in 1945. His service in the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps and Military Police Corps placed him in a variety of Assignments in the US, Europe, Marshal Islands, and Asia. His military awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, and several military campaign and service awards. Following retirement from military service in December 1971 Colonel Groenenboom was employed in financial services with the Medical College of Georgia and with the Rhodes-Murphy Company of Augusta. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Augusta where he served variously as Congregation President, Elder, Trustee, Superintendent of Christian Education and on various boards and committees. He has been an active volunteer in AARP Driver Safety, Taxaide and community service programs. As a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of America, he served for a time as Sergeant-at-Arms of the Augusta Chapter.

Colonel Groenenboom is survived by his wife, Christel, two daughters, Stephanie (William C.) Brown of Grovetown, GA and Kristine (Donald E.) Newbold of Pittsview, AL, three sons, Robert of Augusta, GA, Joe (Holly) of Elko, SC, and Richard (Natalie) of Park City, UT, a brother, Keith A. Groenenboom of Marysville, IN, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
