Dan Winfrey Sheppard
Augusta, GA – Dan Winfrey Sheppard, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dan was born in Gibson, GA, a sharecropper’s son and worked hard as a young boy. His Uncle helped him so he could attend college but he had to work odd jobs to get thru. He was the only one in all of his family to attend college. When he married Carol he provided for his family and they never wanted for anything and he thought he was a very rich man. He said he had a very happy life. Dan was employed at EZ Go for 37 years as the Cost Analysis manager then retired at the age of 67.
Dan loved gardening and he was known for his tomatoes, sweet corn, butterbeans and etc., which he shared with many neighbors and friends. He also loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons.
Family members include his wife: Carol H. Sheppard; son: Dan W. Sheppard, Jr.; step-sons: Keith Williamson (Cathy), Robert V. Williamson, Jr. (Rip); step-daughter: Kimberly W. Lind; a devoted nephew: David Collier; grandchildren: Trey, Catherine, Robby, Trevor and Blake; and sister: Theresa Swint (Levy). He was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Roy Sheppard; brother: Robert Sheppard and sister: Johnnie Maude Kitchens
A private funeral will be held by the family.
The family request that in lieu of flowers make donation to Dan’s boyhood church-Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 1745 Highway 171 South, Gibson, GA 30810 or to your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors,
