Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, March 9, 2011, Mr. Danel “Dan” New, 83, husband of Mrs. Brenda Smith New of Augusta.
Mr. New was a native of McCormick, SC and resided in Augusta. He was principal of Armurchee High School in Rome, GA, Tignal High School in Tignal, GA, Athens High School in Athens, GA, National Hills Elementary in Augusta, GA, and Forest Hills Elementary in Augusta, GA. He taught at Silver Bluff High School in Aiken, County, SC. He retired after 40 years. Mr. New served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948.
Family members in addition to his wife include, daughters, Valerie Ann New of Augusta, Allison Marcelle New of Augusta, sister, Frances Word of Augusta, nephew, Mark Word, niece, Carlette Prostko, dogs, Maggie and Daphne, cat, Shanook.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Wayne Bruner officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to, the CSRA Humane Society, PO Box 14667, Augusta, GA 30919.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
