AUGUSTA, Ga. – Entered into rest Friday, November 13, 2009, at Doctors Hospital, Mr. Daniel B. “Dan” Smoak, 87, beloved husband of Lillian Koger Smoak.
Mr. Smoak was born in Windsor, SC but had lived in Augusta most of his life. He retired as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Air Force after serving 31 years. He served as an Air Force pilot during WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. He served on the Diplomatic Mission for two tours of duty in Asuncion, Paraguay. Mr. Smoak was a member of the Augusta Elks Lodge #250 BPOE. He was owner and operator of Smoak’s Bakery in Augusta.
Family members in addition to his wife include his son: David M. Smoak of Augusta; three granddaughters: Danielle Westfall, Lisa Folk, Ryanne Smoak, three great-grandchildren: Richard, Patrick, Alyssa; a sister: Marjorie Jean Adkins and husband Tommy of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors, Rev. John Pinson officiating.
