Augusta, GA – Mr. Daniel P. Matheny entered into rest on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of South Carolina and a Naval Officer in World War II. He was a past member of the City Council of Augusta and formerly served on the Civil Service Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission of Augusta. He was a realtor by profession, owner of Matheny Real Estate Company, and served as past President of the Augusta Board of Realtors.
He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Augusta where he served as Deacon and Deacon Emeritus. He was past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, former Sunday School Superintendant and Training Union Director.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Winefred Baker Matheny, two children: Thomas Martin Matheny, and Linda Matheny King, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. R.J. Robinson and Dr. Gregory DeLoach officiating. Interment will be private.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Johnson, Dr. Stan Smith and Dr. Jonathon Reimer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o First Baptist Church of Augusta, P.O. Box 14489 Augusta, GA 30901.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
