Lincolnton, GA - Dan Poindexter, 61, passed away from a heart attack on June 20, 2020.
Dan was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and lived between Indiana and Florida most his life until moving to Lincolnton in 2012. He met the love of his life, Lou Ann Liers, 20 years ago while living in St. Petersburg and together they bought their property in Lincoln County to start a new life in their lake cabin. Dan never met a stranger, and loved meeting people making friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and good old-fashioned smarts endeared him to many acquaintances.
His love of boating prompted him to work in the boating industry. He was the St. Petersburg Harbor Master at Harborage Marina, Parts Manager at Pelican Marina, Hudson, Florida, and Parts Manager at Marine Max, Clearwater and St. Petersburg. In Indianapolis, he worked at American Red Ball.
He was an avid collector of air and BB guns. He enjoyed bringing life back to old and neglected guns – bringing them to their former glory. He could fix just about anything, and if he couldn’t, he would read until he figured it out. He was a great resource to his friends, relatives, and neighbors on everything from electrical to plumbing and everything in between.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his partner, Lou Ann Liers; brother David Poindexter, Port Richey, Florida; sister, April Strong (husband Dennis), Indianapolis, Indiana; nieces Layla Wall, Melissa Stewart, Christy Wineingar, nephew David Poindexter, all in Indianapolis; his two spoiled dogs, Sadie and Sami; and best friends David Bass and Michael Alexander. His parents David Roscoe Poindexter and Phyllis Johnson Poindexter preceded him in death.
There will be a celebration of life in Florida where his ashes will be spread on St. Petersburg Beach per his wishes. There will also be a small gathering at the lake cabin in Lincolnton. The dates for these events are to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donate to LC Paws, a struggling nonprofit organization to assist with strays in Lincoln County (Lincoln County does not have an animal shelter and their goal is to fulfill this need): LC Paws, PO Box 84, Lincolnton, GA 30817. Please mention that the gift is in memory of Dan Poindexter, a great lover of all living things.
