Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, September 6, 2014 at his home, David G. Edmiston, 77, loving husband of 57 years to the late Beverly Moone Edmiston.
Mr. Edmiston was a native of Altoona but grew up in State College, PA. He joined the United States Air Force where he retired after 22 years as a MSGT. During his military career he served for 18 months on the Texas Towers and was a member of the Texas Towers Association. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1976, Mr. Edmiston went to work for Civil Service where he was instrumental in moving the Signal School from Fort Monmouth, NJ to Fort Gordon. He was also influential in coordinating the establishment of the Fisher House on Fort Gordon.
Mr. Edmiston was a two-time recipient of the Charles R. Evans EEO Award and was also the former President of F.M.A. Chapter 95. He was a proponent agent for the installation and upkeep of the POW/MIA Monument at Fort Gordon. Mr. Edmiston was a member of the Martinez Lodge #41 F&AM, the Grovetown Lodge #730 F&AM, and Marvin United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed writing and penned many letters to the editors of the Augusta Chronicle and Signal newspapers, as well as writing articles in the US Army Communicator Magazine. He was a loving father and patriot, always looking out for the underdog, and acting on it. He was known for his tremendous sense of humor.
Family members include daughters: Mona Bock and husband Dan, Laura McManus and husband Ben, and Melissa Johnson; a son: David Edmiston II and wife Kathy; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jo Holbrook.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Pauline Hughes officiating. Interment will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. Members of the Martinez and Grovetown Masonic Lodges will serve as honorary pallbearers.
