We regretfully announce the passing of David Eugene Grimaud, 87 years old, of Appling, GA. David passed away on 08/02/22 in his home on Appling-Harlem Rd.
David was born to Foster and Fannie Grimaud on 11/23/34 in Grovetown, GA. He was a very hard worker with a very pleasant personality, which earned him the nickname “Smiley”. He was an exceptional student and graduated from Evans High School in 1950 at the top of his class and attended Augusta College at the early age of 15 years old. David milked cows by hand in the early morning hours on his family's farm, deliver the milk to Augusta, attended college classes, and returned home for the final milking of the day. In between all of his work, he managed to find time to learn the craft of fine woodworking. David loved making porch swings, birdhouses, furniture, cabinets, and more. He was known as a master carpenter by many and had a passion for craftsmanship.
After two years of college work David joined the Army and was stationed in San Antonio Texas. After four years in the military motor brigade, David returned home and began working at various companies around Augusta and found a home at the Continental Can paper mill. This was later known as Federal Paper Company from which he retired after 32 years of employment. While working in the maintenance department at the paper mill David was reunited with his teenage love, Joyce Rennison. David & Joyce spent their days traveling the U.S. visiting forty-eight of the continental states, excluding only Alaska and Hawaii. They remained deeply devoted to each other over the past 40 years.
Although David didn’t have children of his own, he took many local boys under his wings and taught them woodworking, lawn maintenance, and more importantly, life skills that will serve them for many years to come and continue his legacy. David is survived by his wife Joyce Rennison Grimaud, Yvonne Knox (sister), Ann Hogan (sister), Andrew Grimaud (brother), Nellie Ruth Olson (sister), and Nancy Thomas (sister), a host of nieces and nephews, and all the young men who were lucky enough to be mentored by David that considered him family. He was predeceased in death by Foster Grimaud (father). Fannie Grimaud (mother), Amy Revel (sister), George Grimaud (brother), and Arthur Grimaud (brother).
Graveside memorial service will be held in his name on Saturday 08/06/22 at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11:00 AM.
