David Key

David Patrick Key, 67, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family after a two-and-a-half-year battle with a rare salivary duct carcinoma.

Mr. Key was born in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Davis and Revie Key, and moved to Aiken, SC after his birth.  Mr. Key worked most of his career as a truck driver at the Savannah River Site, over-the-road, in the San Francisco Bay area, and locally in the CSRA.  He took on a second career as a home healthcare aide after retiring from trucking.

David loved crossword puzzles, playing games on his iPad, watching the Golden Girls and playing with his miniature schnauzers: Sam, Libby, and Hudson. He traveled with his husband to 26 countries and six continents including Antarctica.  He was the sweetest soul most people will ever meet, and his departure is a loss to so many friends and family.

He is survived by his husband of 27-years, Dr. Christopher J. Bannochie.  He is also survived by his sister Cindi Key Black [Donnie], nephews Joey Black and Michael Key, nieces Jessica Black Britt (Matt) and Jennifer Black Collins.  His great nephews and nieces; Logan Collins, Kyle Collins, Madison Black, Olivia and Laylah Britt, and Kiley Wood.  His great nephews and nieces were the joy of his life and never failed to bring a smile to his face.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Martin and Kenneth Key.

His spouse would like to thank his personal physician, the AU Health doctors and the nurses and the staff of Heartland Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care and support.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son [214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484] with Professor Linette Watkins leading the remembrance.  Please sign the guestbook at www.thomaspoteet.com.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial, beginning at 3:00 P.M., at the funeral home.
