Augusta, GA – David Hamilton Steele of Augusta, GA entered into rest on Friday, June 24, 2022. David, 68, is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cindy Steele and his four children: Jonathan & Erin Steele, parents of Sylas, Logan, Lucy and Eli; Matthew & Amanda Steele, parents of Jay, Trent, Andy and Ben; Rebecca & Kevin Peace, parents of Cecelia, Charleston and Coale; Michael Steele, parent of Emerson.
David was born in Leonardtown, Maryland to Heath and Katherine Steele. He graduated from Council Rock High School in 1971, attended Gordon College, Augusta College, and earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of SC. David served in the US military from ’73-’76, and went on to be the President of Augusta Millwork and CEO of the Window Gallery for nearly 30 years. He loved and thrived in his most recent position at Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate Company, which he started in 2014.
David loved being an active member in the community, serving on the board of Heritage Academy and the Augusta Housing Authority, as well as Heart to Serve Veterans. He was a larger than life intellectual who loved to read, debate, learn and teach. He was a history enthusiast with a servant’s heart who gave his time and his abilities to help others, both in the public and private sectors, and will be remembered as a valued advocate for all his endeavors. He took pride in his work, pride in his expeditions, but above all pride in his family. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father and beloved grandfather who reveled in his twelve grandchildren. His favorite place was with his family reading a book or telling a story. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 12 noon at Quest Church with Rev. Forrest Page and Dr. Tim Owings officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Academy, 333 Greene St. Augusta, GA 30901 or to Quest Church, 5001 Gateway Blvd, Grovetown, GA 30813.
