Davis Blackston
Walter "Davis" Blackston, III, 73, of Thomson, GA, loving husband of Linda Jamison Blackston for 52 1/2 years, entered into rest on Friday, March 9, 2018 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA.
He was born in Charleston, SC in 1945 to the late Vera S. Blackston and Walter D. Blackston, Jr. Family members in addition to his wife, include two daughters: Melanie Lynne Blackston and Melinda Leigh Blackston Gordy (Patrick); three granddaughters: Ashleigh Lynne Gay, Taylor Alexis Murphy (Barrett), and Haileigh Tara Niles; great grandson: Ryder Kael Hoover; mother-in-law: Mildred Palmer Jamison; sister-in-law: Ginny Jamison; nephews: Derek Fitzgerald, Travis Jamison, and Jamie Jamison; and niece: Daralyn Christensen.
Davis was a member of Curtis Baptist Church, Augusta, GA and attended the First Baptist Church of Thomson after moving to Thomson in 1997. He graduated from Carlisle Military School, Bamberg, SC in 1964. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons of Georgia, Social Lodge No. 1, Augusta, GA as well as a member of the Augusta Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a retired member of Local 150 Pipefitters and Steamfitters Union for over 50 years. Davis was highly respected by those he mentored in the trade. He was a respected biker and an active member of the Augusta Georgia 3910 Harley Owners Group (HOG). Davis loved his five Australian Shepherds especially his beloved Bandit and Buster.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son, with the Reverend David Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, GA with full Masonic burial rites.
Pallbearers will be Richard Johnson, Joey Dozier, Mike Brocato, Jimmy Rinker, Joe Doyle and Jimmy Griffin. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Local Union 150 and members of Augusta, Georgia HOG Chapter 3910.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 12, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.
Family and friends may call at the residence of M. P. Jamison, 1605 Wildwood Drive, Augusta.
