Deanne Matheson Gebhard, age 80, a sweet soul and beloved friend to all who knew her, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in her apartment at Thrive of Augusta. She was born August 28, 1944 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to the late Julius Daniel Matheson and Maxine Tucker Matheson.
Deanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Gebhard, her parents and her twin brothers John Charles (Chip) Matheson and James Christopher (Chris) Matheson. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bense and Judy Matheson of Murphy, North Carolina, sister-in-law, Peggy Matheson of Vidalia, GA and sister-in-law, Roslyn Matheson of Sylvania, GA, several cousins, five nieces and one nephew. Special acknowledgement to very dear and special friends, Donna Spires and Barbara Willis of Grovetown, GA. Deanne graduated from Lyons High School in 1962 then received her Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Georgia. (She LOVED those Bulldogs!). She retired with 40 years of service as a pharmacist and worked proudly and very happily the last years with the Publix Corporation in the Columbia County locations.
Deanne loved all animals, especially her sweet black cat, Angel, who was her constant companion while living at Thrive of Augusta the last 2 years of her life.
Deanne also cherished her time spent gardening, finding local garage sales, and had a natural talent for painting and all things crafting.
She was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, GA. Deanne had a strong faith in God and loved attending her Sunday School Classes. She also loved to listen to Christian Music and was an avid supporter of Billy Graham. A celebration of life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
