Deborah S. Hicks
Jacksonville, FL/Evans, GA – Ms. Deborah (Debbie) Sanborn Hicks, age 70, entered into rest at home on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Ms. Hicks was born in Portland, ME to Wilson Fiske and Natalie Hutchinson Sanborn but lived most of her life in Florida. She earned her Bachelors and Masters of Social Work degrees from FSU, was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and worked over 30 years at Army and Navy installations in the U.S. and Germany. In retirement, Debbie continued using her Social Work skills and was passionate about volunteering at St. John’s Catholic Church in Atlantic Beach, FL. She was the former leader and a long-time member of TOPS. She enjoyed going to the movies and yard sale hunting. In addition to her two great-nephews and two great-nieces, she loved finding and buying gifts for children of all ages. She would lend a helping hand and had a positive impact on anyone she met. Her favorite vacation place was Peaks Island, ME.
Family members include daughters: Teresa Rowland and Melisa (David) McNair; sister: Bonnie Ryan; nephews: Chad (Joanne) Ryan and Kevin Ryan; four-legged son: Rags; and Nana to Chipa and Coco.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home, 3600 3rd St. S., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250 at 1 p.m., with Fr. Mark Waters officiating.
