Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, February 11, 2017, Mr. Deleon Neal Ray, loving husband of 59 years to Betty Parham Ray.

Mr. Ray was a native of DeFuniak Springs, FL but moved to Atlanta, GA after marrying the love of his life. He retired with the rank of Captain after 32 years of service in the Fulton County Marshall’s Department. After retiring he moved to Rutledge, GA and was elected to the Rutledge City Council in 1995 and elected Mayor of Rutledge in 1997. Mr. Ray recently moved to Augusta to be near his daughter.

He was a member and Past Master of the Dewald Masonic Lodge in Rutledge, GA. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Scottish Rite, and Shriners Yaarab Temple (Atlanta, GA). He was a kind and loving man of many talents who could cook, sew, build a house, and fix almost anything.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughter: Dr. Catherine Celeste Ray (Susan Yarborough) of Augusta, GA; brother: Dr. Dennis F. Ray (Dr. Brenda Ray) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; sister-in-law: Gertrude Ray of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of University Hospital 6th floor ICU for their compassionate care, especially Dr. Jerome Barnes, Dr. Neil Epperly, and the nurses Ashleigh and Reece.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Crestlawn Cemetery in Atlanta, GA with Rev. Randall Byrd officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds St, Augusta, GA 30901.
