Delores A. Murell was born to Charles and Eunice Anderson on January 28, 1948 in Albany, GA. Her mother and two brothers moved back to Atlanta where she was reared by her mother and grandmother. She attended Bass High School until her senior year. The family moved and she graduated from Murphy High School in East Atlanta in the top 10% of her class. She attended Massey Business School and majored in accounting.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Murell, 54 years, her daughter, Audrey Murell of Augusta, & son Tony (Jeannie) Murell of Phoenix, Arizona.
Delores was a dedicated Christian, Pastors Wife and Mother. She was a well loved teacher in the church to children, youth and ladies. She started First Place Weight Loss program, a Bereavement Ministry, and Ladies Tea in the last two churches served. She taught VBS and trained VBS teachers in various areas of Georgia for almost 50 years. She led an after school Good News Bible Club for 12 years. She attended and served in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for 24 years. Delores loved to cook and serve people in the home. She developed a Color Analysis Business for women’s clothing and made crafts to sell. She was a great help to Steve and the Baptist Ministry always adjusting to various challenges. She was Steve’s number one encourager.
As her children, we hope we filled her heart with love in abundance. We thank the Lord for the patience and wisdom He granted to her in raising us. She was passionate about her role as Mother, prioritizing our needs above all else. Mom made our birthdays a celebrated event. She poured her heart into every message she wrote on cards and letters to us, making sure her penmanship was beautiful. Mom loved humor and subtle whit. She carried love in her pockets and sprinkled it freely wherever she went. We will always remember her elegance and spirit of excellence she brought to all she did. Despite facing battles most would not comprehend, she chose to live kind.
Her life of love, loyalty and devotion to Christ, her family and to the church will be greatly missed. She truly excelled.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nurse Sydney Smith and caretakers Melinda Harris, Christine Davis, Barbara Mathis, and also to Tommy and Buzz Poteet and to the staff at Thomas Poteet & Son.
