Augusta, GA – Denise Elizabeth Anderson Sherrill, beloved wife of William Serlie Sherrill III, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Friday, May 31, 2013. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, William Serlie Sherrill IV, her parents, Joseph McRoy, Sr. & Deona Anderson and brother, Joseph McRoy Anderson, Jr.
Family members in addition to her husband include sisters: Diane Anderson Schlein, Debbie Anderson Jones; beloved father and mother in law: Bill and Betty Sherrill; sisters in law: Lisa Futrelle (Jeff), Lela Sherrill, Louise Garren (Joe); nieces: Leslie Mills, Amy Munford (Brian), Lisa Kaylor, Rhonda Powers (Jeff), Elizabeth Burke (Brad); nephews: LT. Vincent Jones (Erin), Joey Jones, Franklin Futrelle (Jessica); great nieces and nephews: Christopher Kaylor, Catie Kaylor, Ricky Powers, Bekah Powers, Carter Munford, Caroline Munford, Harrison Mills, Julia Jones; uncles and aunts: Bill and Bobbie Anderson, Dorothy Anderson, Joan Anderson; and several other family members.
Denise was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church where she was a MOTTS (Mothers of Trinity Teens & Students) Leader in her home for several years. She served in the Family Prayer Ministry as well.
She was a graduate of Academy of Richmond County, Augusta Area Technical School and studied Business Administration at Augusta State University. She completed the Certified Professional Secretary Program. Denise was employed for several years by the Property Management Division of Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate Company. Her favorite occupation was being a wife and a mother. She served on the Stevens Creek Elementary School PTO Board as Secretary and Hospitality Chair for two years. She created the Character Club Recognition Program while volunteering for Stevens Creek. She volunteered in the Riverside Middle School office and served on the Parent League Board of Augusta Preparatory Day School.
Denise was a member and Past President of the West Lake Garden Club. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association/Go Red for Women and the Mended Hearts after open heart surgery three years ago.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Cash, Rev. Greg Hatfield, and Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Franklin Futrelle, Andy Avera, Stuart Marks, Joey Jones, Mike Brett, and Brian Munford.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church at 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
