Dessey L. Kuhlke
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Mr. Dessey Landrum Kuhlke, 75, husband of Mrs. Barbara Mills Kuhlke.
Mr. Kuhlke, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bernhardt Kuhlke, Sr. He was a 1959 graduate of Academy of Richmond County and a 1963 graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University. He served in the United States Army, active duty and reserves from 1959 until 1965. Mr. Kuhlke was Secretary and Treasurer of Kuhlke Construction from 1963 until 1968 and President from 1968 until 1978. He was Executive Vice President of Kuhlke Construction & Associates from 1976 until 1986, Chief Operating Officer of Kuhlke Properties (Masters Economy Inn) from 1978 until 1988 and managing member of Kuhlke Investment Company, LLC from 1990 until present. In the past, he served the community in many capacities; the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for University Health Care services (University Hospital), Chairman of the Augusta Resources on Aging (Brandon Wilde), Chairman of the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank of Augusta and Chairman of the Executive Committee. Mr. Kuhlke was President of Tuttle Newton Home, President of Augusta Free School and President of the Exchange Club of Augusta. He was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church where he served as past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and the Building Committee and member of Augusta Country Club and Augusta National Golf Club.
Family members in addition to his wife include children: Kathy Kuhlke Burgamy (Larry); preceded in death by sons, Brian Mills Kuhlke and David Landrum Kuhlke; grandchildren Mary Kate Burgamy, Sarah Ann Burgamy, Lillie Katherine Burgamy, Ellen Kuhlke Cowper and the late Franklin Cabot Kuhlke; brothers William “Bill” Bernhardt Kuhlke, Jr. (Beth) and Frederick Hamilton Kuhlke (Angie); seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 28, 2017, 2:00 P.M. at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Cash and Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Exchange Club.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church gathering area.
