Dolores “Joan” Groover, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, peacefully passed away on March 11, 2025 surrounded by her family in Augusta Georgia.
Joan was born in Stapleton, Georgia on May 11, 1938, and made the most of her beautiful life, enriching so many other people’s lives throughout her 86 years. Joan was best known for her love of our Lord, her dedication and commitment to her church, First Primitive Baptist Church of Augusta through playing the piano, singing, and as the choir director. She could be heard countless times bragging on her 'choir babies' that she loved so much. She was such a great steward of her talents and bestowed so many random acts of kindness, love and generosity to all.
If she wasn’t helping at church you could almost be guaranteed to find her repurposing some jar or can that she could transform into some beautiful masterpiece to present to a lucky recipient. I can still see her making Dad dig through the kitchen trash can hunting for some type of container that could be made into a treasure! She was passionate about her crafts and could turn empty toilet paper rolls into prestigious Christmas decorations in the blink of an eye! She loved making personalized greeting cards, sewing, embroidery, quilting and poetry. Joan was a vibrant force in the lives of everyone she touched.
She was quick to whip up a poem to describe anything from a serious ailment to something whimsically funny going on in your life. She was spontaneous and hilarious in all the best positive ways. She was truly an inspiration of how to live a happy life. She found true joy in her family and friends and always prioritized her husband Ed, whom she adored. She loved her children fiercely even when they tested her patience and sanity. She enjoyed spending time with her church family, extended family and friends. Joan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and many funny tales. I hope if you were ever touched by her, you will take the opportunity to share those memories with her family.
Joan is survived by her doting husband, Edwin D. Groover. Her children are Walter A. Groover (Dollette), Terri-Anne Groover, Valerie G. Long (Gregg), Kellie D. Dengate (Mark) and Patrick D.Groover. Her grandchildren are Miranda Vesely (Jeremy), Adrianne Leferink and Chris Long (Miranda). Her great grandchildren are Seth Vesely (Taylor), Hope Vesely, Luke Vesely, Skylar Leferink, Freya Leferink, Jackson Long and Madison Long. Further, she held a special place in her heart for her niece Dianne Lee, bonus daughter Yvonne Jenkins and her bonus granddaughter ValerieJenkins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Flowers are accepted, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Primitive Baptist Foundation, Inc., PO Box 595 Roswell GA 30077-0595 in memory of Joan, a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior.
