Donald Augustus “Swifty” Berry
Evans, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, August 24, 2016, Mr. Donald Augustus “Swifty” Berry, 83, husband of Mrs. Madeline Berry.
Mr. Berry was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy where he played on the Varsity Baseball Team as pitcher. Mr. Berry also played American Legion Baseball. He was a member of Abilene Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, on the building committee and treasurer. Mr. Berry was the former treasurer of Martinez Baptist Church, and Broad Street Baptist Church. He was a strong Christian who loved the Lord, his church and helped many other ministers with their accounting needs. Mr. Berry coached Little League baseball and was a former member of the Evans High School Booster Club. He enjoyed fishing especially with his father-in-law, Horace Deas. Mr. Berry was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia football and the Masters.
Family members in addition to his wife include children: Nancy Berry Lowery and husband Monty, Rev. Donald A. Berry, Jr. and wife Christie, and Tony Sisson; grandchildren: Stephen Lowery and wife Mandy, Tambra Nalley and husband Jay, A.J. and Tyler Sisson, Mary Ruth and Curtis Berry; great-grandchildren: Patrick Lowery, Lilli and Jeremiah Nalley; step-children: Scott Bedgood and April Maddox, and many other loving family members. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Deas Berry and his daughter, Dean Berry Sisson.
A funeral service will be Friday, August 26, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Abilene Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Berry officiating. Interment will follow in Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Abilene Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Blitch’s Sunday School Class.
