Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest Monday, November 28, 2011, Mr. Donald L. McLeod, 79, husband of Mary McLeod.
Mr. McLeod was a native of Hazlehurst, GA, but spent the last 35 years in Augusta. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of both the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, and Vietnam War. Following his retirement he returned to Hazlehurst. After six years, he moved to Augusta, where he began working with the Civil Service at Ft. Gordon, and remained there for the next 36 years. Mr. McLeod loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and riding horses.
Surviving family members, in addition to his wife, include sons: Randy McLeod and wife Patti of Hazlehurst, Jimmy McLeod and wife Nita of Hazlehurst, Greg McLeod and wife Debbie of Washington, GA; daughter, Kathy McLeod of Hazlehurst; Family Friend: Diane Burkhalter of Hazlehurst; brothers: Edward McLeod of Evans, Verlon McLeod of Augusta. Grandchildren: Matt McGee; Morgan McLeod; Corey (Steven) Bridges, Lisa (Ryan) Yarbrough, Nathan (Dana) McLeod. Great-grandchildren: Colby Yarbrough, Annaleigh McLeod, and Sawyer McLeod.
Mr. McLeod was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Lois McLeod, sisters, Cleoman Connell and Evelyn Mancillas, and brother Howard McLeod.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1, 2011at 3:00 P.M. at Bridgeford Church of God in Hazlehurst with Rev. Wayne Merritt and Rev. Bob Powell officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers include the grandsons and Mike Mooney.
