Augusta, GA – Col. Donald O. Lundquist , U.S. Army (ret) passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016. He was born on December 12, 1924, to Edwin and Alta Lundquist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, was assigned to the 667 Field Artillery Battalion and was sent to the European Theater of Operations. After additional training in England the battalion was attached to the First Army until after the Battle of the Bulge. They were then assigned to the Third Army until the end of the war.

With the Army of Occupation, he was sent to England to attend college for six months. Upon returning to the United States, he enrolled in the State University of Iowa and graduated in 1951 with both B.A. and DDS.

During the Korean War, he served with the 2nd Division Artillery Headquarters. He was awarded the Bronze Star for services rendered there.

His next assignment was in Okinawa, Japan. He returned to the United States to attend a course at Fort Sam Houston, TX, prior to an assignment at Fort Belvoir, VA. When transferred to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO, he completed a residency in Prosthodontics, passed the examination for the American Board of Prosthodontics becoming a Diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontics. His membership included The American Society of Prosthodontics, The American College of Dentistry, The American Equilibration Society, The American College of Prosthodontists, and he was a Consultant to the American Dental Association in Prosthodontics.

While serving in Madigan General Hospital, Tacoma, Washington, he researched extensively on the study of denture base materials and published the results. He was transferred to Germany for a three-year period and stationed at Nuremberg Hospital. Upon returning to Fort Dix, New Jersey, his duties included training interns and residents in Prosthodontics. His final military teaching assignment was in Ft. Benning, GA, where he was given an A to his Military Occupational Specialty. He retired from the Army on June 30, 1971.

He was a Professor at the Medical College of Georgia in the School of Dentistry, Prosthodontics and was Coordinator for occlusion. His research and publication identified the correct function of certain muscles of mastication. He was published in the Research and treatment of TMJ.

After retiring from MCG School of Dentistry in 1985, he enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a member of Uptown Kiwanis, the Augusta Country Club, and the Pinnacle Club. While a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church he served as a Deacon and Elder. Later, after joining Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, he served on the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. He was one of the original members of the Potter’s Class Sunday School Class.

Family members include his wife: Elizabeth R. Lundquist; children: Steve Lundquist, Tom Lundquist, Susan Lundquist Jones (Butch), JoAnn Murphy Bryant (James), Greg Murphy (Sharon), and Brian Murphy (Sheri); grandchildren: Brittany Lundquist Telfer (Matt), Stewart Lundquist, Megyn Bryant, the late Devon Bryant, Brianna Boudreaux (Nick), Matthew Murphy, Ryan Murphy (Julia), Megan Murphy, Emily Murphy, Heather Lundquist, and Bradley Lundquist; and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Cash and Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded following the service. A celebration reception will follow in the Gathering Area of the church.
