Augusta, GA. - Mrs. Dorathea “Topsy" Ann Caplan Jones, entered into rest Sunday, May 9, 2022 at University Hospital. Mrs. Jones was the wife of the late William “Bill” Jones, her husband of 57 years.

Henderson (Sean Kern), William H. “Bill” King (Danielle), Krista H. Gambella (Rick), Rachel O. Taylor; great-grandchildren: Evan Luda (Jessica), Meagan Williamson (Drew), Zachary Colton “Cody” Day, Matthew “Drake” Gordon, Elise “Elle” Day-Barnett (McKenzie), Evelyn Sofia Gordon, “Lyndee Seren Gordon, Catharine L. “Cass” Jackson, Martha-Grace E. Mrs. Jones was born July 23, 1924 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. She moved during middle school to Chattanooga, TN, where she graduated from Central High School in 1942. She went on to Business School. In 1943, she went to work at Fort Oglethorpe in the finance office. This is where she met the love of her life, Mr. William Jones, when he transferred to her office after service overseas. The couple married in 1946, when he was discharged from the army, and they moved to Augusta, GA, where Mrs. Jones went to work at Oliver General Hospital.
In 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Jones became charter members of St. Mark United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jones was a Sunday school teacher for the nursery and toddlers for 32 years, a member of the French Bible Class, and the church’s “sign keeper” for 25 years. She was a member of the Masters City Square-Dance Club. Mrs. Jones loved to cook and spent countless hours in the kitchen canning and freezing the bounty from her husband’s garden. She also enjoyed sunbathing by her neighborhood pool.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Broome, Rev. Thurman Norville and Rev. Dr. Sargent Nelson officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park. (Mrs. Jones will lie in state one hour prior to the service).
Pallbearers will be Bobby Bryant, David Brinson, Trace Brinson, Gavin Brinson, Tristen Brinson, and William Pruett. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the French Bible Class, Charlie Mongold, Bo Slendak, Bill Bullock, Eldred Austin, and Rick Murphy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tim McKenzie, John Atkinson, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at the 4th floor of the University Hospital Heart and Vascular Center.
