Augusta, GA-Mrs. Doris Estelle Gardner, 86, of Augusta, GA went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, June 9, 2013. She was born in Augusta, GA and raised in North Augusta, SC by the late Willie Lee and Bessie Horne.
Retired from Copeland Elementary School as a Paraprofessional, she was an active member of Hill Baptist Church being a devoted choir and Sunday school member as well as volunteering in the church library and on church committees. Her hobbies included sewing, watching nature, collecting, and spending time with family and friends.
Preceeded in death by husband Henry Arnold Gardner, sister: Jane Y. Bowsher, and granddaughter Becky K. Durie. She is survived by her children: Anne Kalney of Harlem, GA, Kay Pippin and husband Ed of Augusta, GA, and Beth Gardner of Augusta, GA. She is also survived by grandchildren: John Kalney, Samantha Junchaya (Vaughn), Katie Thigpen (Chris), and Angela Pippin; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Bessie Lee Oglesby of Albany, GA ; and beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Hill Baptist Church 2165 Kings Way with Reverend Kenneth Word officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers include: Ed Stalnaker, Chris Thigpen, Phillip Vera, Billy Usry, Martin Pippin, and Jimmy Mills.
