Dorothy Dawson Carpenter
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, June 2, 2015, Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Dawson Carpenter, 91, loving wife to the late retired Col. Harry Manly Carpenter, Jr.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Anthony, NM but raised in El Paso, TX. She graduated from Ysleta High School in 1940 in El Paso where she was voted “Most Popular Girl”. She moved to L.A. when she was 19 to work and eventually moved back to El Paso. She met her husband while he was stationed in Ft. Bliss. She worked for the Augusta National Golf Club in the 60’s as a bookkeeper. She is past member of Junior Woman’s Club, Metropolitan Woman’s Club, Elks Lodge Auxiliary, Military Officers Association Auxiliary, Live Oak Garden Club, Azalea Garden Club, Augusta Country Club, and the Ft. Gordon Officers Club. Mrs. Carpenter was a very independent woman, loving mother and grandmother, and she will be missed.
Family members include her daughter: Barbara C. Ellington and husband Joe; granddaughters: Amanda Atkinson and husband Bert, Laura Carpenter Ellington; grandson: Jarrett Benjamin Ellington; great grandson: Raleigh Everett Atkinson; sister Babs Dawson Rogers of Lubbock, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, the late Harry Manly Carpenter, III.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. on Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Mike Cash officiating.
