Dorothy (Dot) Satcher

Augusta, GA- Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Satcher, 83, of Cason Dairy Road, Warrenton, GA, beloved wife of 61 years of Duke William Satcher, entered into rest November 3, 2009.
Mrs. Satcher was born in Augusta, GA to the late Ivan Parker, Sr. and Dorothy Pearl Broadwater. She was preceded in death by her brother Dr. Ivan Parker, Jr. and her sister Abbie (Peggy) McLeod. Survivors include three daughters: Dorothy S. Bromley (John) of Battle Creek, MI, Deborah Moriah Smith (Steve) of Warrenton, and Deryl S. West (Barry) of Woodstock, GA, a grandson: Wesley Satcher (Krista) of Raeford, North Carolina, four great grandsons: Tristan, Ethan, Jared and Luke Satcher.
Mrs. Satcher is a retired nurse who attended Augusta College and graduated from St. Joseph College of Nursing. She also attended the University of South Carolina Aiken. In 1960 she opened the medical unit at the Continental Forest Industries (now International) Paper Company from which she retired.
Mrs. Satcher was active in the Augusta community, having served on the Board of American Red Cross for a number of years as well as volunteering as a Red Cross Instructor. She was a past member of the Junior Woman’s Club and spent time and energy in fund raising for the then “Teen Town of Augusta”. She volunteered with Junior Achievement and United Way and served as a loaned executive with United Way. She taught a pre-teen Sunday School Class at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Augusta.
Mrs. Satcher was an accomplished horsewoman and won numerous Arabian Horse Championships in the southeast area. She enjoyed golf and was an avid duplicate bridge player; playing several years with the Aiken Duplicate Bridge Club and then joining the As-You-Like-It and Contract Bridge Clubs in Warrenton. She was a member of the Warrenton Garden Club. Her greatest pleasure was growing flowers and vegetables and giving them to friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA with Chaplain Stephen Russ officiating.
