Dorothy Welch

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Dye Welch, 88, entered into rest on March 7, 2023. Dorothy was born in Parkersburg, WV but grew up in Newport, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George Eugene Welch, her brothers Gene Dye, George Dye, and her sister Libby Lauer.

Dorothy is survived by her four daughters, Patsy Welch-Walton (Gary), Hephzibah, GA, Dorothy Jean (Jeannie) Welch Sapp (Harold), Warner Robins, GA, Tina Welch Powers (Bruce), Athens, GA, Vickie Welch Moon, Augusta, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Michaelis (Stanley), Marietta, OH, and sister-in-law, Judy Dye, Newport, OH.

Her legacy is her grandchildren, Carrie Evans, G.W. Eggers, Jason Eggers (Nikki), Laura Eggers, Brandon Sapp, Brad Sapp (Erika), Ann Marie Sanders (Nick), David Irick, Matthew Moon, Gary Moon II, Billy Moon, and Crystal Moon. Her life was full of love, laughter, family, and friends which include her 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Angel.

Dorothy was an avid crocheter and was always giving her works to others to express her appreciation for service and friendship. She was a homemaker for many years and then later worked with her husband, Gene, at Johnnie’s Bait & Tackle Shop.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Sapp, G.W. Eggers, Brad Sapp, Jason Eggers, David Irick, and Matthew Moon.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Baxter Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
