Dovie Penelope "Penny" Jackson

Dovie Penelope Jackson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2024, in Grovetown, Georgia. Born on October 9, 1948, in Athens, Georgia, Penny lived a life filled with love and compassion that touched the hearts of many.

As a retired nurse with an unwavering dedication to caring for others, Penny spent her career nurturing countless patients with kindness and dedication. Her gentle spirit was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal relationships. She had an innate ability to make those around her feel cherished, valued and heard.

Penny's family was the center of her universe. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James Albert Jackson Jr. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Pierce and Pearl Howard, and her son Lance Axon (Shannon) and daughter Katie Ann Gresham. She was a proud grandmother to Bailey Axon (Breonna), Kacey Axon, Ruth Axon, Dustin Axon (Alexa Axon), she reveled in every moment spent with them—sharing laughter during family gatherings and offering wisdom whenever needed. The joy of being a great-grandmother brought even more light into Penny’s life as she adored Jace Gresham and Bentley Gresham with all of her heart.

Known for her fondness for babies, especially those dressed in pink—she found immense happiness in caring for children throughout all stages of their lives. Whether it was through grandkid sleepovers or simply being present at family events where little ones played underfoot; each moment spent nurturing young lives brought immeasurable joy to her heart.

Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched—the friends who became like family over shared meals filled with laughter and impromptu shopping trips; the colleagues who admired not just her skill but also the genuine care she extended toward everyone around her; and most importantly through the generations of loved ones who carry forward lessons learned from this remarkable woman.

In honoring Penny’s memory we remember not just what made up this extraordinary person—but how deeply she cared about others—and how much brighter our world has been because of it. Though we mourn our loss profoundly—we celebrate having known such an incredible soul whose impact will resonate forever within us all.

A private memorial service will be held by immediate family members at a later date as a testament to love everlasting amidst sorrowful farewells until they meet again one day beyond this earthly realm.
